Ko Ivan tōku ingoa. I whakapapa to Taranaki by blood and whāngai also to Ngāpuhi. I’m Dad to a beloved daughter who is all grown up now - so proud of her, and share 'home' with a crazy dog. Personally I've had a diverse past, mainly in and around criminal law courtesy of a career in NZ Police, I am also a graduate of Te Wānanga Takiura's 'Rumaki Reo' te reo immersion diploma programme (2019). Very grateful for scholarship support from Taranaki iwi, Parininihi ki Waitotara, and the Māori Education Trust.

In 2025 I will be engaged full-time on Part IV of my LLB (Hons) - my last year!

My main legal interest looking forward is, perhaps unsurprisingly, criminal law, with a healthy related interest in human rights, heavily influenced by a te ao Māori lens. Since 2023 I have been blessed to be clerking at Bloem Law, an extremely dedicated criminal defence firm in Albany, under Anoushka Bloem.   ​

2025 is my third year of supporting our Exec ergo our wider law student body. As Media Officer I'm responsible for our website and social media channels. Key goals for me are to ensure that our private spaces provide a safe, encouraging, informative place for our law students to network and support each other, that students are made aware of opportunities available to them, and to use outward-facing platforms to highlight student and law school success. Fond of the mantra that "nobody wins unless everybody wins" - or at least, nobody wins unless everybody has the opportunity to win.
